Numnahs and Half Pads

Numnahs

The perfect accessory, Numnahs come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, designs and colourways. The shape of the Numnah needs to reflect the shape of the saddle, hence they are are available in dressage, general purpose (GP), close contact, jumping, endurance and race shapes, to name but a few. The Numnah should be large enough that it extends beyond the outline of the saddle so that the saddle does not sit on the seam of the pad, which could be uncomfortable for the horse.

Depending on the style, a good Numnah is designed to absorb sweat and/or offer moisture wicking properties, provide comfort and protection for the horse’s back and cushion the saddle. Numnahs come in a variety of colours – the more traditional white, black and brown to colourful options to help co-ordinate your horse’s colour scheme. Materials also vary and include pure cotton, cotton mixes, sheepskin and lambs wool. Cotton is breathable and washes well, sheepskin and lambs wool absorb sweat very well and are very breathable, although more expensive.

Half Pads

Half Pads are available in a variety of designs and materials and are very useful items to have in your tack room.  Correction Half Pads are also available, which primarily aid saddle fitting and are ideal if your horse is in the growth phase or has come back into work after a break. Half Pads are often used in conjunction with saddle pads. This option provides additional protection and support for the horse.[/read]
